Anamaria Crespo (she/her)

My practice roots itself deeply in photography, even more specifically portraiture. This attraction towards capturing the still image is probably directly related to my need to analyze everything through note taking, mental or otherwise. These forms of recording, ease my anxieties and help me recollect situations that I cannot enjoy in real time. For me, taking the time to look into the details of what others may view as banal or ordinary, is a way of controlling these things and situations. For the last year or so I have been sorting these thoughts and have manifested them in the form of portraits in the traditional sense and what I will consider to be “moving portraits” in the form of short videos. They are meant to be performative representations of the rituals ingrained in our daily routines that can be considered to have sacred counterparts. (Ex. Water and the Catholic sacrament of Baptism, Smoke and Purging/Purification Ceremonies)
